Mindfulness is defined as the process of purposefully bringing your attention to the present, without judgement, a skill that is often developed through meditation and training. The idea of this practise is to allow someone to counter stressing factors and steer the mind away from unhelpful thoughts that can be related to anxiety and depression.
It is thought that by teaching people to respond to stressful encounters reflectively instead of reflexively, it prevents them from using avoidance strategies and lingering on those encounters. In addition, the slow, deep breathing associated with most mindfulness activities alleviate bodily stress symptoms and help balance the involuntary response that occurs.
To start your mindfulness journey, you can join us at our upcoming YogaEcology Festival, a FREE online event which will be held on the 29th of November, 10:00am AEST.
